Message From The Head of Department
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Computer Science. My team of dedicated faculty are committed to serving you. Our vision is be the vanguard of ICT in Guyana and a producer of internationally credible graduates ready for industry and academic advancement, grounded in research and appropriate technology education.
Our inception began about 25 years ago, with a focus on Computer Science. Over the years, we have diversified our program offerings to include concentrations not only in Computer Science, but also Information Technology and Information Systems. Today, students can pursue any of the following five programs: ASc in Computer Science, ASc in Information Technology, BSc in Computer Science, BSc in Information Technology and BSc in Information Systems. Approximately 300+ students are registered across our programs, making the Department of Computer Science the second largest in the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
Apart from academics, the Computer Science Department recognises the need to create well rounded individuals. We achieve this objective through our clubs: Girls in Computing, FOSS, UG Robotics, TechEd Revolution, Social Media and UG Cyber Security. Joining a club presents many opportunities such as career networking opportunities, expanding ones skill set, social camaraderie and giving back to the community. All students are strongly encouraged to become a member of at least one club to help enrich their University experience.
We hope that the information on our website is useful. We also invite you to learn more about our programs and courses, and browse our list of faculty. Please follow us on Facebook (@CSdeptUOG) for updates on the latest events and news from the Computer Science Department.
As always, we welcome you to join us on this journey.
