Biography
Leanna Kalicharan obtained her BSc. in Biology, with distinction, from the University of Guyana in 2013, where she was the best graduating students in the programme. She also holds an MS.c. in Natural Resources and Environmental Management, with a specialization in Coastal and Marine Resource Management, from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus, Additionally, she holds an M.A in Education (Leadership) from the University of Bedfordshire and a Post Graduate Diploma in Secondary - Higher Education with honors in both. Leanna is a Lecturer II in the Department of Biology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, where she instructs multiple courses in both general and marine biology. Furthermore, she supervises and research in the fields of coastal and marine biology as well as education. Leanna’s main research interest includes biodiversity management and development of formulation of policies aimed at biological conservation, with a specific focus on coastal and marine management and resources. Her MSC research was pioneer as it investigated the bycatch discards of finfish in the artisanal Chinese seine fishing conducted in the Demerara estuary, Guyana.
