MSc in Information Systems
Programme Description
The M.Sc. Information Systems programme firstly involves understanding an organisation’s goals and then developing IT solutions to meet those specific needs in a sustainable way. It aims to bridge the gap between functional managers and information systems professionals, which often leads to under-performing or failed systems in e-government, e-commerce, and e-development.
Throughout the programme, students will learn conceptual frameworks that allow them to understand the role of information systems in organisations, as well as the knowledge and skills they need to effectively plan, develop, implement, and manage information systems. Additionally, students will learn how to effectively navigate organisational changes resulting from the use of such systems.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this programme, the students will be able to:
- apply advanced knowledge of programming, databases and networking to solve complex business problems
- demonstrate proficiency in designing, implementing and managing information systems in organisations
- analyze business processes and identify opportunities for innovation, improvement and change
- apply advanced project management techniques to lead, manage and deliver information systems projects
- navigate complex ethical, legal, and social issues in information systems
- critically evaluate opportunities for digital transformation of organisations
- conduct research in the field of information systems.
Entry Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree , with a minimum GPA of 2.7 in Computer Science, Information
Technology or Information Systems. OR - A Bachelor's degree with a GPA of less than 2.7 but greater than 2.0 in Computer Science, Information Technology or Information Systems or any other discipline deemed relevant by the Faculty with a minimum of five (5) years relevant post qualification experience. OR
- A Master of Science Degree in an area deemed relevant by the University. OR
- Any other qualification deemed by the University to be equivalent to the above.
Exit Strategy
Students who complete all courses except the master thesis (at least 27 credits) will be eligible
for graduation with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Information Systems consistent with the
University’s exit strategy.
